This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending Squam Art Retreat.  I have been wanting to go to Squam for many years but with four young children, the timing was never right.  This year I made it happen and I am so glad I did.

When I tried to register for Squam I was told that the retreat was full.  Elizabeth encouraged me to put my name on a waiting list and a month or so later I received an email saying that there was an opening.  I was able to squeeze into two classes, Kate and Courtney's Nirvana Vest Class and Franklin Habit's Mosaic Knitting.

I was a little nervous about going, I knew no one except for a couple of the teachers so I jumped for joy when my friend Karen said that she was going too!  Karen flew out of the Bay area and we met up in Chicago and were able to sit and knit together on the flight to Manchester, NH.

Squam is a beautiful lake with cute, rustic cabins sprinkled along it's shores. Each lakefront cabin had it's own dock and on Saturday the weather cooperated and we were able to sit and knit on the dock with our feet in the water,  I even jumped in but quickly got out, the water was still very cold.  Karen and I shared a cabin with two wonderful ladies and I really enjoyed the evenings sitting around our fireplace, each one of us chatting and laughing while busy on our handwork.

On our last night there I helped Karen set up her booth for the Squam Art Fair.  The hall was filled with handmade goods, books, and fiber.  I bought a wool tunic dress from Cal Patch, a project bucket and book from Maya*Made, a sweet little bunny from TaxiGoods and a few dishtowels and a bracelet from Untold as well as a few other items.

Sunday soon came and it was time to pack up and head to the airport.  I really enjoyed my time at Squam and am grateful for all the wonderful people I met and things I learned.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can go again next year!
