Over the Summer we offered two natural dye workshops with Kathy Hattori of Botanical Colors. The workshops were held at the beautiful Jubilee Farm. In the first workshop students learned about dyeing with raw materials such as logwood, madder, cochineal as well as some plants that were harvested at the farm. The second day was all about indigo. The students had a blast dyeing yarn and other fibers they brought from home and even over-dyed some of the yarn from the previous day's workshop.
Emily, one of the students in the workshop and daughter of Tolt staffer, Paula, stopped in the other day wearing an amazing cowl that she knit using all the yarn she had dyed in both of the workshops. One of the amazing things about natural dye is that the colors all work well together.
We plan on offering this workshop again next Summer but until then you can dye in your own home using the Botanical Colors dye kits we have in the shop. These kits along with a couple skeins of Snoqualmie Valley yarn make the perfect gift for any fiber enthusiast.
