  • New Year, New Sweater

    Happy New Year!
My husband and I got to ring in the new year together up in the woods where it was below freezing.  The kids were having fun at their cousins' house so it was just the two of us.  We kept warm by the fire and I was wrapped in wool and busy working on finishing my Lighthouse Pullover by Carrie Bostick Hoge from her new book, Swoon Maine.
I was able to finish the sweater on New Years Day and once we were back home, I washed it and it dried quickly next to the fireplace.   This sweater is a beauty!

I knit the Lighthouse in a size 35 3/4 using YOTH Yarns Father.   Caviar is the main color and Saba, Oyster and Sea Salt are the contrasting colors.   I knit the pattern as written except I bound off at the neck and then picked up for the collar.
Looking back at all my knits for 2015 I realized that my favorites are the ones that are simple, classic, and wear well.   As a mom of 4, a farmer, shop keeper and now helping to care for our own little forest in Carnation, my knits have to stand up to cold, wet weather and hard work.  With this in mind I am starting to think about what I want to knit in 2016.
After a couple of baby knits (my sister is expecting later this month), I will be joining the Woolful KAL and will cast on the Portland Pullover from Taproot Issue 15.  I am thinking about knitting this sweater in Beiroa.   Another sweater that's calling my name is Marsellus, a new design by Whitney Hayward for Quince & Co..  As for accessories, The Field Wrap and Aspen Legwarmers from our Farm to Needle book are on the list as well as two designs from Jenny Gordy, the Snoflinga Hat and the Cozy Purl Ridge Mitts.  I am also very excited for Icelandic Wool month which is just around the corner (coming this March) so I need to start thinking about which Lopapeysa (or two!) I want to knit.
I hope 2016 treats you well and I would love to hear what your knitting plans are for 2016.  Please tag us on Instagram so that we can see all your beautiful knitting projects.  Wishing you all the best.
