NATURAL DYE GUEST WORKSHOP: KATHY HATTORI'S INDIGO: EXPLORING THE SECRETS AND MYSTERIES OF THE VAT
A hands-on workshop for dyeing with natural organic indigo.This is an all-blue, dipping extravaganza! Students will watch a demonstration on how to create an indigo vat and then everyone will take turns dipping yarns to achieve different shades of blue! We’ll also create wonderful greens, purples and other overdyed shades using yarns previously dyed with natural dyes. The vats will also be available for students to dip their own yarns and fibers.
Skill Level: Beginner. No experience necessary. Students should be able to bend, twist, lift, walk and carry heavy buckets of water, dye pots and wet yarns.
Supplies Needed: Students wishing to take home some of the natural dye are encourage to bring a glass, gallon-size jar with a tight-fitting lid or a large-mouth bottle. All other supplies will be provided.
