Keep your sock drawer stocked by learning how to repair and reinforce your hand-knit socks. We'll discuss a few techniques to extend the life of our favorite socks while looking at samples of different types of mending. We'll then practice on sock swatches or your own socks that are ready for repair.
Skill Level: Intermediate. You know how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off, knit in the round, and you have made at least one sock.
Supplies: A sock swatch (see homework below) and/or hand-knit socks that need repair and reinforcement, DK weight yarn in a contrasting color (or whatever yarn weight matches your damaged socks), scissors, tapestry needles, a circular needle or DPN's in the same size as your sock swatch or socks that need repair, optional: a darning egg or large serving spoon.
Homework: Create a sock swatch (cast on 48 stiches in DK/light worsted weight yarn on size US4 needles, knit four rounds of 1x1 rib then knit a minimum of three inches in stockinette stitch, knit four rounds of 1x1 rib, and bind off in pattern).
