This class teaches the basics of dyeing with traditional raw, natural dyestuffs, including madder roots, conchineal, walnut and osage sawdust. Students will also receive recipes and procedures for naturally dyeing at home. All yarn will be provided and students will leave class with enough naturally dyed yarn for a small project.
A pair of long gloves thick enough to withstand hot dye baths.
A small bucket and garden clippers or old scissors for gathering dyestuffs.
A container such as a 2-liter bottle with tightly fitting top so you can take home surplus dye baths.
Some ziplock bags to take your wet yarns home
A roll of paper towels or some towels for any spills
Lunch, beverage and snack
A notebook and pen
